ADDITIONAL CLARIFICATIONS ON THE OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES ON THE REGISTRATION WITHOUT EXAMINATION OF PROFESSIONAL FOOD TECHNOLOGISTS UNDER BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 02 (S. 2022)
Pursuant to the Professional Regulatory Board of Food Technology (PRBFT) Resolution No. 10 dated June 2, 2023, the following are additional clarifications on PRBFT Resolution No. 02 (s.2022) entitled “Operational Guidelines on the Registration Without Examination of Professional Food Technologists” that shall take effect immediately:
I. Definition of Allied or Equivalent Degree Programs
In addition to those enumerated in item no. 1 of PRBFT Resolution No. 09 (s. 2022), the following degree programs shall likewise be considered as allied or equivalent to Bachelor of Science in Food Technology for purposes of qualifying for registration without examination under Section 20 of R.A. No. 11052 and PRBFT Resolution No. 02 (s. 2022):
a. Degree programs considered allied to BS Agriculture
b. Allied degree programs included in Section 5.5 of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 07 (s. 2019), as follows:
- Nutrition - Engineering (Food, Chemical,
- Agriculture Industrial, Agricultural, Sanitary)
- Biochemistry - Pharmacy
- Microbiology - Veterinary Medicine
- Fisheries - Chemistry
c. Degree Program considered equivalent to BS Food Technology such as BS Food Science and Nutrition, BS Nutrition and Food Technology, and Bachelor of Food Technology offered by higher education institutions with government recognition and proper authority from the CHED, or equivalent local or foreign authorities to offer these degree programs.
d. Degree Programs considered allied to items a, b and c offered by higher education institutions with government recognition and proper authority from the CHED, or equivalent local or foreign authorities to offer these degree programs, provided, that the experience requirements herein prescribed are complied with:
• Biology
- Applicant must have at least five (5) years of cumulative work experience within the scope of practice of Food Technology immediately preceding the effectivity of R.A. No. 11052, which is July 16, 2018
• Industrial Technology Major in Food Technology
- Applicant must have at least five (5) years of cumulative work experience within the scope of practice of Food Technology immediately preceding the effectivity of R.A. No. 11052, which is July 16, 2018; and
- Master’s degree and/or Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering, or any of the equivalent degrees, taken in the Philippines or abroad
• Home Economics Major in Food Technology
- Applicant must have at least five (5) years of cumulative work experience within the scope of practice of Food Technology immediately preceding the effectivity of R.A. No. 11052, which is July 16, 2018; and
- Master’s degree and/or Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering, or any of the equivalent degrees, taken in the Philippines or abroad
For graduates of foreign higher education institutions (HEIs) – a Certificate of Equivalency issued by the CHED indicating equivalency to the same or similar degree programs offered in the Philippines.
II. Applicants with Master’s Degree and/or Doctorate Degrees
a. Graduates from allied programs who pursued Master’s and/or Doctorate Degrees in the following may count the years of study as work experience:
- Food Science
- Food Technology
- Food Engineering
- Any equivalent degrees
b. Master’s Degree holder:
A minimum of three (3) years cumulative work experience within the scope of practice of Food Technology immediately preceding the effectivity of R.A. No. 11052, which is July 16, 2018 is required.
c. Doctorate Degree holder
A minimum of two (2) years cumulative work experience within the scope of practice of Food Technology immediately preceding the effectivity of R.A. No. 11052, which is July 16, 2018 is required.
III. Documentary Requirements
The following documents shall be required to ascertain compliance with the requirements for registration without examination:
1. Graduates of allied degree programs (indicated in items a, b, and d in the Definition of Allied or Equivalent Degree Programs)
- Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) or Government Recognition; or other document indicating proper authority to offer the allied degree programs in compliance with the policies, standards and guidelines for these programs as stated in relevant CMOs or issuances governing the offering of these allied degree programs.
2. Graduates of allied degree programs taken in the Philippines (indicated in items c in the Definition of Allied or Equivalent Degree Programs)
- COPC or Government Recognition or other document indicating proper authority to offer these equivalent degree programs in compliance with the policies, standards and guidelines for these programs as stated in relevant CMOs or issuances governing the offering of these allied degree programs.
3. Graduates of allied or equivalent degree programs (Filipinos or Foreigners) taken in foreign HEIs (indicated in items a, b, c and d in the Definition of Allied or Equivalent Degree Programs)
- Certificate of Equivalency issued by the CHED indicating equivalency to the same or similar degree programs offered in the Philippines
4. Graduates with Master’s and/or Doctorate degrees (Filipinos or Foreigners)
(i) copy of undergraduate and graduate Diplomas and Transcript of Records
(ii) COPC or Government Recognition or other document indicating proper authority to offer the graduate degree program
